It wasn’t directed at you, it was directed at the actual picture. I don’t think just ‘reading books makes you better’. If I read a book on ‘Mathematical properties of String Theory’, how would that make me any better if I didn’t understand anything it said? I don’t think reading makes you better, I think properly selecting a text valid to what you want to know and applying what you learned is much more important than just reading a book. If I read Recursive Methods in Economic Dynamics, that doesn’t mean I can tell you how to fix the economy or even have a better understanding unless I critically think and use what I learned in real life situations throughout years of practice.
In summary, I don’t think reading makes you better, I think if and how you apply it does. Otherwise, it doesn’t do anything.
